It's been decorated with pink paperclay "frosting", glittery red piped "frosting", piped paperclay rosettes, and finished off with a healthy sprinkle of glitter "sugar". It hangs on a 2.5 inch silver wire hanger, and is lightly scented.

Christy Meyer's work has been the source of inspiration for many, as she is nationally known for her beautiful sculpted dolls, whimsical characters, and seasonal one-of-a- kind ornaments. A long time member of the talented group, Primitive Folk Art Tea and Talk (P.F.A.T.T) Christy is always coming up with new and exciting works of art. A talented lady to be sure!

Join us at our 9th Annual Holiday Folk Art Show where we open our home during the holidays to our cherished customers and collector friends.The festivities take place the first weekend of December when our cozy cottage home transforms into a whimsical holiday shop filled with my folk art creations. Hot cider and treats are provided while you are welcome to stroll through the various rooms, taking in both our colorful, vintage-style decor and papier mache creations. Items for sale include my signed reproductions offered through both Primitives by Kathy and Bethany Lowe Designs. Ornaments, charms, candy containers, Santa and snowmen figures and illustrated notepads are just a few of the delights. For those of you wanting to collect a unique one of a kind creation, I will have a winter collection of folk art pieces available for you as well! And, for those who want more of the orange and black, a portion of my studio room will be dedicated to Halloween fans wanting my spooky reproduction, year-end treats. And, rumor has it that my parents may be joining us this year to help out at our home show too! So, the more, the merrier!

This little lady is a Prim Halloween/Day of the Dead Catrina ornament by Sylvia Smiser of Anaboo Creations. She has been made out of muslin that has been stuffed, needle sculpted, painted and antiqued. She has black wool roving hair, green eyes and paper flowers to decorate her crown. This little lady has had each individual tooth, eye, and nostrils needle sculpted. She would look great decorating your Halloweeen tree or Day of the Dead tree. She is 3 3/4 inches tall and 3 inches wide.

She is a little pumpkin make do made with a paper mache pumpkin I painted,

aged and attached to a vintage candle holder. I used crepe

paper for her dress and collar and used black pipe cleaner for her

arms. I decorated her with various little leaves and she holds a little pumpkin hangtag. She stands 8 inches tall.

Here's our little spokesmodel for the PFATT Auction...her name is Jadyn. She donated her pink ribbon for me to use on my champagne cork ornie. When I first told her that I needed a pink ribbon for one of my ornies, she said I wasn't allowed to use it. But when I told her that the ornie was for on the tree that was going to raise money for breast cancer she said, "You can use my pink ribbon Nana." ♥

We will travel the Mixed Media map with techniques in sculpting with paper clay, painting with acrylics, and collage to produce something MAGICAL for your home. Some are crafted in the Folk Art tradition, some from vintage or reproduction chocolate molds, while others look like they were handed down from the Victorian Era. Many members of our group released balloons to the heavens with attached notes to our PFATT sister Penny McAllister and other loved ones who have passed on. Yesterday was Penny's birthday and we wanted to do something special for her. Two years ago, several of us celebrated her birthday early with her during our PFATT Fest held in Lafayette, California. We bought her a cake and surprised her with it on our last night together. That was a very special night and one that none of us will ever forget. ♥

Below are all the pics that were taken yesterday. So special........it felt so good to let those balloons go sailing up into the sky. We know she was looking down at us all and smiling. There were so many signs of her around us that day.......Happy Birthday Penny!! ♥

As I was heading out to play

She had tiny polka dot wings.
She was all dressed in red,
And I giggled as she landed on my head.
With her wings spread wide and ready for flight,
“Oh don’t fly away” I said with a fright.
She gently whispered in my ear,
“Don’t worry dear friend I’ll always be near.
In your thoughts, your dreams and, your prayers,
Your laughter, your smiles, and your love we will always share.”
With a sparkle and twinkle and sweet blessings,
She gracefully fluttered her polka dot wings.
I saw an angel today…
One I'll never forget.

For our dear sweet Penny. Yesterday she took a turn for the worse. Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.........light a candle or two or three. If you have a prayer chain......please call and ask them to pray for her. Her full name is Penny Lamont McAllister and she is the sweetest lady with the most wonderful southern accent. She's a licensed artist with Midwest of Cannon Falls and she's also a retired elementary school librarian.

Laurie Hardin of Monkey Cats Studio!!!

Laurie Redfern Hardin attended the University of Nebraska-Kearney, receiving both a BFA and MA in the visual arts. Laurie taught in the art department at UNK for 11 years as an adjunct faculty member teaching design, drawing and art appreciation courses. Laurie later worked for the University at the Museum of Nebraska Art, serving both as the assistant curator and curator.

In 2005, Laurie returned to the studio to work fulltime at establishing her own art business, initially focusing on landscape and still-life painting. In the fall of 2006, Laurie expanded her repertoire to include holiday inspired handmade papier mache sculpted figures. Intrigued by the look and texture of papier mache, Laurie worked at developing a line of figures, plaques and containers that could be discerned stylistically as "hers," which led to her one of a kind designs in 2007. In the spring of 2008, Laurie discovered the internet blog world, established a blog, became a member of PFATT and was invited to sell her work on the SpookyTime Jingles internet marketplace.

Laurie's adorable paper mache creations stand out with her signature look of those big grins and soulful eyes. The detail in each and every one of her creations is absolutely amazing. Each one of them is a true One-of-a-kind creation.

Pictured above is the adorable creation that Laurie made for The Penny Feather Tree Auction that just ended on Ebay. All preceeds went to The Leukemia & Lymphoma, Inc_Alabama Chapter.

One of Laurie's favorite holidays is Halloween and this little cast of characters can't help but bring a smile to anyone's face! Laurie was also very honored to be one of the Halloween artists invited to do the Halloween & Vine Show in Petaluma, CA this past September. Below is a picture of Laurie with Scott Smith of Rucus Studios in front of her table full of characters.

This year, Laurie will be showing at Ghoultide Gathering in Northville, MI. (You can view Scott's Slideshow from last year's Ghoultide Gathering on the sidebar to the right.)

My Friend, Penny….
　
I was asked to write a biography about my friend, Penny Lamont McAllister, by my sisters of PFATT as I’ve known Penny for longer than most of my sisters, however I have found the words more difficult than I ever imagined.

Penny came into my life, as most have done, by fate. We roomed together for a little show called “The Folk Art Invitational” many years ago. Dressed in vibrant colors, only out shown by the glow in her face, Penny walked into our hotel room and my life. A true Southern woman from Alabama with a drawl to match, Penny enchanted me with her art…So bright, cheery and filled with child like innocence it brought me back to my most fondest kindergarten memories of my favorite books, crayons, tempra paints, and lickey stars. (Which makes total sense since she is a retired Elementary School librarian). She shared her “pimenta cheese” with me and I introduced her to lemon drops, and we have been friends ever since.

Sure Penny has lots to crow about…. Licensed through Midwest of Cannon Falls for longer than any other artist I know. Participates in some of the toughest juried shows in the country… Has been published in Country Living and Southern Living, and probably more that I do not even know about, but she doesn’t give them much thought. Like most artists, Penny sees so many of the imperfections of her work and is rarely satisfied, however unlike most artists she is not daunted by the odds. Penny continually asks the question, “What do you have to lose” and ventures out into new directions and possibilities like no other, even from her hospital bed.

Which brings me to the new chapter in Penny’s life…. The Acute Leukemia Chapter, which I wish had never opened, but God must know Penny well enough to know…. She will not give in to this dreaded disease. She will fight you Leukemia with all her polka dots, glitter, and guts that she has, and she is not alone. With her husband Jonathon, her two daughters, her “Mama”, and all the lovers of her art and especially her PFATT Sisters, we are here to make a stand against this disease, and we will not stop until our special Penny is cured. I hope you will join in our stand against Leukemia, and help us support our fight, with the only thing we artists can offer… our work. Please leave a comment, a bid(auction to be listed in February), or a donation to the Leukemia Society in honor of it’s newest member, Penny Lamont McAllister… my friend and sister. A Visit From St. Nicholas/'Twas the Night Before Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.
His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night."

I made this little guy from osnaburg and cotton print fabrics. His hat is burlap. His hair is wool roving. His eyes are cotton batting and his nose and mouth are stitched. He has natural twig arms and legs. The pocket on the front is embellished with preserved sweet annie and rusty bells/pins. I have tied a piece of cheesecloth around his neck. The entire piece is grunged with walnut ink and coffee. He measures 16 inches tall from the top of his hat to the tips of his stick legs.This is a one of a kind Vintage Polka Dot original creation and will come to you signed and dated.

Hello, my name is Christy Meyers and I am CC's Whimsies. I am a self taught Folk Artist following a dream. I've been on my venture full-time/over-time for the past 7 years, and there have been a lot of Whimsies born since then.

I love fabric, old lace, decorating, and coffee. Besides sculpting, my other passion is gardening. Our yard is filled with flower beds, that I'm constantly "rearranging". I've been married for almost 30 years to my best friend, Rick. We are blessed with three wonderful sons, and a beautiful daughter-in-law. I really enjoy what I do, and I hope that this shows in my work.

Me in my Grandparents' garden, 1961 (you probably could have guessed the date by looking at those bangs!!) I've loved flowers and gardening for as long as I can remember.

I create a unique variety of one of a kind items, including vintage style santas, snowmen, rabbits, chicks, Americana and Halloween items. I take pride in my attention to detail, as I meticulously handcraft each creation using paperclay, papier mache, or cloth. Mica, vintage trims, German glass glitter and tinsel, give my items a look that's reminiscent of earlier times. Some pieces are crafted in the Folk Art tradition, some from vintage or reproduction chocolate molds, while others look like they were handed down from the Victorian Era.

I'm so honored to have been chosen by the prestigious Early American Life magazine as one of this Country's top Artisans and listed in the 2008 Directory of Traditional American Crafts Holiday issue. The Directory has been used for the past two decades by curators at living history museums, owners of traditional homes, and motion picture producers for finding artisans to make period-appropriate furnishings and accessories for displays, collections, and use.

I was doubly pleased to be listed in two areas.... SANTAS and OTHER HOLIDAYS.Being listed in the Directory is an honor bestowed on a handful of artisans who work in traditional media, styles, and crafts, an award that singles out their work as the best now produced in America today. 6" Primitive Uncle Sam and 5" Primitive Lady Liberty rest on black spools. Both have stitched on facial features. Sam has curly wool for hair and beard and wears a stovepipe hat with USA stamped down the top. Liberty wears a striped tie around her neck with a rusted bell. Corse fiber hair with red glittered crown on top of her head. Both have been stained and come signed and dated as an original by Mustard Seed Originals.

Thank you for taking the time & interest to learn a little bit more about Grimitives...

Who is Kaf?? Wife, Daughter, Care Giver to my Wonderful Mom. A Dollmarker, Artist , Photographer.

That's me Kaf~Designer and crazy owner of Olde Cape Primitives 'Grimitives Originals'. I live on Cape Cod (on beautiful 6A-Old King's Highway). We are nestled among beautiful apple trees~situated atop a hill overlooking a view of the ocean.

I've been designing and sewing since I was a little girl. My wonderful Nana taught me the ins and outs of sewing. She has since passed away but I will always treasure the times spent sewing with her. My dream was to go to art school and become a fashion designer. Well, I graduated from New England School of Art & Design: Fashion Illustration; and instead of clothes, I design dolls. I also love to draw~I've done illustrations for jewelry stores, and I also have some published drawings in "The Best of Gourmet Cookbooks".

I guess I get my talent from my Mom; Alice Foley, a self taught artist and my #1 employee. Thank You Mom!

Special thanks to my best friend; my sweet and wonderful husband Dickie, who I could not live without!

Our items are handmade with lots of LOVE... hand-stitching & fine details & the finest materials.

I have a passion for vintage textiles (Which I incorporate into all of my dolls), tinsel garlands, glass glitter, buttons, pins, dresses and baby shoes, Halloween/Christmas vintage goodies....etc.

Linda Kennon of The Gourd Queen has made an 8 1/2" tall Santa Make-Do. His head is a coyote gourd and his dimensional features were sculpted with air dry clays. He has been aged and sealed with a minwax stain and then sprinkled with lots of Springtime Fairy Dust.

Lori Davis of Vintage Palette Art painted this chunky little 4" x 4" canvas "Sunflower Diva." Hand painted in acrylics and assembled with vintage papers and german glass glitter. EBay ID Vintage*Palette.

Rose Gilpin of Rosebabys made this make-do especially for the giveaway. She measures 18" tall and was placed upon a painted, crackled, candlestick. She is holding a vintage hankie, along with a vintage brooch attached to the envelope and has Rose's signature, embroidered face.

"Hello and welcome! My name is Carolee Clark and I’ve been doing art in some form for as long as I can remember. I’ve studied both commercial and fine art and the scope of my experience has included everything from crystal engraving and calligraphy to watercolor, acrylic paintings and oils. All my work is created in the studio of my Pennsylvania home, which I share with my wonderful husband and our four furkids. The real kid has left the nest, and now I spend most of my days with a paintbrush in my hand."

"I am inspired by all things magical, wicked and whimsical; fairy tales and legends, ghost stories, childhood Halloweens and just about anything in the natural world around me. Most of my work is painted in acrylics on signs and wood functional items, but I try to find the time to work in other mediums as well. I’ve recently been experimenting with incorporating three dimensional accents into my work and I love it! Many hours go into the creation of each design, and I try to give each piece it’s own personality and sense of whimsy."

Johanna is a folk artist specializing in One Of A Kind Halloween collectibles with vintage appeal. She hand sculpts and paints her paper mache creations from scratch and without the use of molds, so each is truly unique. From imagination to paper, she often applies her very own illustrated party hats to her characters for a signature look! Along with Halloween, she also enjoys creating in other holiday themes, including Christmas, winter, spring and more....You can find a seperate line of her designs offered by Primitives by Kathy and Bethany Lowe Designs.

The PFATT BLog..........

I thought I should do a post about who and what PFATT is. This blog was started for the Primitive Folk Art Talk & Tea eBay group as a way for customers, friends and fellow bloggers to get to know us and our art better. We sell and list on eBay and are a by invitation only private group. (You can read our blog description written by our leader Christy Meyers of Ccswhimsies located farther down in the right hand column.)

There has always been some confusion about the difference between the PFATT eBay group and PFATT Marketplace which was started by the founding leader of the PFATT group. When Pfatt Marketplace was first started, we thought it best to call it Primitive Folk Art Trinkets and Treasures to distinguish the difference between the two.

Some, but not all, of the eBay PFATT members sell on PFATT Marketplace along with many other talented artists. If you have never visited the PFATT Marketplace before, you simply must! It's updated on the 10th of each month by our wonderfully talented webmistress Sandy of Samiamcreations who does an amazing job! There is a PFATT Marketplace banner that you can click on to go there if you scroll down a bit on the right hand column.

I hope this helps with those of you who have asked about the difference between the two.
